We all know that Bidaay Byomkesh is not based on any novel by the eminent writer and the creator of Byomkesh Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. Director Debaloy Bhattacharya tried to present Byomkesh in a modern way i.e Byomkesh of 2018. In this movie we can see Byomkesh in the twilight of his life, with half bald head and full of grey hair. Byomkesh may have grown old but his quench to find the truth is same as before. Here the director has tried to put some limitation on aged Byomkesh as we'll see Byomkesh suffering from sugar and is forced to quit smoking habit due to health issues. But the director has chosen not to give mobile phone to Byomkesh in order to make it modern, which is commendable.
Abir Chatterjee has been found in a double role in this movie as he plays aged Byomkesh as well as Byomkesh's grandson Satyaki. Joy Sengupta is his role as Byomkesh's son has done justice to his character. Sohini is playing both Satyabati who has been portrayed dead here but she regularly comes in Byomkesh's subconscious mind, as well as she is also playing the role of Satyaki's girlfriend(Tunna) here. Rahul had a cameo as Ajit who is also portrayed dead and appears only in Byomkesh's subconscious mind. Eminent singer Rupankar Bagchi has portrayed the role of a senior police officer along with Sujoyprasad who has a very interesting and surprisingly good role.
The story starts with Joy i.e Byomkesh's son surrendering to the local police station saying that he has committed a murder. But everyone knows or believes that he has been trapped or is forced to take such a step. How Byomkesh with the help of his grandson Satyaki solves the mystery which entered in his own house is the heart of the story. Bidaay Byomkesh is running successfully in both single screen and multiplexes.--(Animikh Sengupta)
