MOMO - Animikh Sengupta
After claiming the life of an innocent 12 year old in Argentina the notorious suicide game “Momo” came into limelight. The game first started to circulate on Facebook where the members where ‘challenged’ to communicate with an unknown number. The image of Momo is of a woman with repulsively ugly features and bulging eyes has been taken from the work of Midori Hayasi, who however is not associated with the game in any way. It is being said & believed that this game is a form of ‘bait’ used by notorious criminals to abduct data & extort people through internet.
The game seems to be haunting India as well, after two persons, Manish Sarki (18) & Aditi Goyal (26) committed suicide in Kurseong, West Bengal after accepting the invitation to join the killer game. Special directives has been sent to the district police stations & schools has also been instructed to take a close look at students’s behavioural patterns. Through initial investigation it has been concluded that people who show the slightest hint of depression or willingness to commit suicide are being mysteriously targetted by “Momo”. It is been adviced by experts to not accept invitations of this killer bait. Experts also instructed people to frequently change passwords of email accounts & other social media sites. Any invitation to join the game from any unknown number should be blocked and reported to the local police station as early as possible.
